Practical guide
Plan your eBay workflow
Compare listings with the destination market and delivery cost included.
Start with a reproducible sample
Use one item ID and destination postcode; separate fixed-price listings from auctions.
- Define one target, a permitted task, and the settings that must remain fixed.
- Check the exit IP and location, then run the complete task in the intended client.
- Record valid results, errors, traffic, and timing. Change one setting at a time.
- Scale only after the sample meets your acceptance criteria and the traffic budget.
What makes the test meaningful
Store item price, shipping, seller location, currency, and the remaining auction time.
Limits to account for
An auction price is time-dependent. Shipping exclusions and taxes cannot be inferred from a country IP alone.
Example: compare a delivered listing
Select one actual item ID and a delivery destination such as postcode SW1A 1AA in the United Kingdom. Record displayed currency GBP, item condition, seller, and listing format. Keep an auction observation separate from a fixed-price offer: they answer different questions even when the photographs and product description appear similar.
Store the visible item price, shipping charge, delivery restriction, and observation time. For an auction, also record the remaining time shown on the page. Compare the same listing with a second declared destination only after making a separate series; do not silently overwrite the original shipping setting between requests.
Errors in cross-market comparisons
A current auction bid is not a completed sale price, and an asking price does not establish what a buyer paid. Label these values according to the observed page. Check condition, quantity, accessories, and delivery destination before calling two listings comparable. A low headline price can be outweighed by a different shipping charge.
When the page shows a currency conversion, preserve the original amount and the displayed converted amount separately. Do not infer taxes or import costs that the offer does not disclose. A delivery exclusion is a commercial condition, not proof of a broken proxy. Keep removed listings and incomplete pages outside the accepted price series.
An auditable observation record
Require the item ID, seller, condition, listing format, destination postcode, currency, price, shipping, and timestamp. Keep auction timing in a dedicated field and retain the final URL. If your project permits evidence capture, save the selected destination and the cost section rather than only a cropped headline price.
Validate a small sample manually and separate observed offers from confirmed purchases. Track comparable rows, unavailable listings, and network errors independently. Base a delivered-total calculation on the fields actually provided, with any unresolved costs explicitly left unresolved. These criteria make the comparison useful without claiming a guaranteed transaction price or worldwide shipping coverage.
| Task | Starting configuration | Verify before scaling |
|---|---|---|
| Independent regional observations | Chosen country; rotation between samples | Exit-IP location, valid response content, and traffic per result |
| Login or another multi-step session | Continuous session; consistent browser profile | IP continuity, cookies, authentication, and account permissions |
eBay: questions before launch
What should I verify when testing eBay?
Store item price, shipping, seller location, currency, and the remaining auction time.
Should I keep one IP or rotate it?
Use a continuous session for login and other multi-step tasks. Test rotation between independent requests. Verify the exit IP in your application; connection settings and a fixed address are different things.
Does a proxy guarantee access or a successful outcome?
An auction price is time-dependent. Shipping exclusions and taxes cannot be inferred from a country IP alone.
Residential traffic pricing
Choose the plan that matches your workflows
The rate depends on traffic volume. Check the final amount and available payment methods in your dashboard before payment.
